Santa Clara, CA, January 9, 2008 — Relypsa, Inc., a privately-held biopharmaceutical company discovering and developing novel polymeric drugs, today announced the appointment of Ronald Krasnow as Senior Vice President, Intellectual Property & Chief Patent Counsel.  In this newly-created position, he will be responsible for overseeing all activities related to ensuring solid intellectual property (IP) protection for Relypsa’s technology and product portfolios.  Mr. Krasnow will also oversee corporate and transactional legal activities on behalf of the company.  He will report to Jay Shepard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Relypsa.

Mr. Krasnow joins Relypsa with more than twenty years of experience focused on worldwide intellectual property development and management in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.  Notably, he held senior-level responsibility at Symyx Technologies, Inc., where he filed applications leading to more than 350 issued patents worldwide, many in the field of polymeric products.  In addition, Mr. Krasnow gained firsthand experience in patent examination while working at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Krasnow most recently served at Symyx Technologies, Inc. as Senior Vice President, Intellectual Property, responsible for Symyx’s intellectual property rights in the fields of high throughput methods, equipment, software and materials.  As the first in-house attorney at Symyx in 1997, Mr. Krasnow created, managed and licensed the company’s IP portfolio including worldwide patent development.  Previously, Mr. Krasnow was an attorney at Fish & Neave in New York representing clients in complex patent litigation and interferences.  He has also served as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Mr. Krasnow received his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University, National Law Center and his Bachelor of Science degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from The University of Michigan.
