THERAPEUTIC AREA RENIN-ANGIOTENSIN-ALDOSTERONE SYSTEM (RAAS) FEATURED LINKS

Hyperkalemia

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone (RAAS)

The RAAS system is a group of related hormones that act together to regulate blood pressure and water (fluid) balance to achieve cardiovascular homeostasis.

The central role of the RAAS system in hypertension and renal disease has increased the interest in the ability of RAAS-blocking agents to provide benefits that go beyond blood pressure control. For example, Renin Inhibitors, ACE Inhibitors, ARBs, and Aldosterone Antagonists are commonly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, kidney failure, and damaging effects of diabetes. A potential complication of using these drugs is an increased risk of hyperkalemia.
